Dear family, dear friends.

Due to timing, I will summarize David's story

             In 1961, David was 5 years old and living in Hong Kong. His father's quarry stone business that got started with 3 friends, had gone under and everything was lost. David's father then decided to come to the United States to HOPE and pursue the American Dream. By doing so, he had to leave all the kids, wife and mother behind in Hong Kong.

            When he arrived to the United States and got off the plane, he only had a $20 bill in this pocket. But with the help from friends, he got a job as a dishwasher. And being a hard-working man, he became a chef in a very short time.

            His father was making $400 a month. each month he sent $80 back to Hong Kong to support the family. And after paying $30 for rent, the rest was put into savings for future investment.

            Five years had passed and by that time his father had saved close to $8000. And in 1966, he met Mr. Young in Chinatown and became good friends. Since David's father did not speak English, Mr. Young helped with all the immigration paperwork. And later that year, Mr. Young invited David's father to join into a partnership with other friends to open a Chinese restaurant. For David's father, this was like a dream come true.

           After the restaurant opened, business was good. His father made some dividends from his share. And with those dividends, he brought the whole family to Boston. At that time the kids were young and the father's household discipline was tough. The kids were taught NO smoking, No drinking, work more and sleep less. Most of all, his father encouraged the kids to go into business and saying, "If the business does not turn out successful, you do not give up; you just start all over again!" And for the past 50 years, the children did not disappoint the father and the whole family did well.

          And for the last 10 years, the father always said that he was very satisfied with himself. That ever since getting off the plane with only $20 in his pocket, some 60 years prior, not even in this wildest dream, he dared to think that he would have such success.

         To David, his father is a HERO. When his business failed in Hong Kong, he did not give up. He chose to come to the United States. And through hard work, achieved his American Dream. And he never forgot his family in Hong Kong. Diligently sending every month, hard-earned money for the household support until he was able to bring the whole family over to the United States. David says, that in his book of life, he is a true hero and a role model.

         Of course, David's father success was not accomplished all by himself. He was lucky to have help from many good friends. David's father said that throughout his whole life, he made a lot of friends. BUT his only friend was Mr. Young. That he was there for him during his worse time and was there when he needed help the most.
