Kit Chang Chow Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kit Chang Chow, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend who left us peacefully at the age of 88, surrounded by his family.

He will be remembered as a quiet, gentle, and kind-hearted soul who touched the lives of everyone who knew him.

Kit Chang Chow was a man of few words, yet his actions spoke volumes. His humility and generosity were unparalleled, and his love for family and friends knew no bounds. As his wife, Mee Yone, often joked, “You barely talk, how do you have so many friends and why do people love you so much?” The answer was simple: he was a good person, always willing to help family or friends.

Born in Burma, Kit Chang Chow came to the United States in 1969 with his wife and three children in tow, with one more on the way. He fulfilled his American Dream by opening a restaurant -Hula Hula in Waltham, buying a home, and providing for his family. He made sure his children experienced “American” things—doughnuts, pizza, annual road trips with a few outings that may have seemed a bit eccentric like fishing at midnight. Everything was done as a family.

A true Jack of all trades, Kit Chang Chow was self-taught in many things. Whether it was building furniture, fixing things around the house, or playing multiple instruments – violin, flute, guitar, clarinet and more, he would always figure it out. He enjoyed photography and he used to take pictures of Mee during their courtship which are held dear by the family today.

Kit is survived by his devoted wife, Mee; his eldest son, Steven, and daughter-in-law, Witney, along with their son, Jackson; his daughter, Jamie, and her children, Nicholas and Kenzie; his son, Jimmy, and daughter-in-law, Anna, along with their daughters, Mia and Ava; and his youngest daughter, Ellen. He is further survived by his younger brother, Sio Cheong Chou of San Francisco, younger sister, Sim Chow Tung of Quincy.

Though we mourn his passing, we will forever be grateful for the love, wisdom, and kindness he shared with us. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
