Obituary of Julie Lee
Julie Lee, 97 years old of Cambridge, MA, died in her home of more than 60 years on
April 15, 2025.
Born in Chicago, Illinois in 1927, Julie moved to China as a young child where she
completed her education and pursued a career in teaching. It was there where she met
her late husband, Shih Hing Lee.
Julie always had a strong business ethic. Hard working all her life, Julie and her
husband Shih Hing, were owners of Sun Tuey Restaurant in Boston. They were also
instrumental in the establishment of Boston’s oldest Chinese Bakery, Ho Yuen Bakery,
which recently celebrated its 50th year in business. Julie and her husband were also
original partners in several other business ventures.
Julie was a beacon of compassion and service. Her life was defined by giving of her
time, of her love, and of herself. She was a time-honored member of the Chinese
community in Boston. Julie dedicated endless hours to several causes that were close
to her heart. Some of the positions she held were Vice Chairman of the Board of the
Kwong Kow Chinese School, Treasurer for the Lee’s Association of Boston and a lead
accounting position for the Chinese Women’s Association of N.E. Julie was also a
member of the Ng Family Benevolent Association of Boston and associated with the
Kuo Min Tang of Boston and the Lee On Dong Association of N.E.
Julie’s impact was widely recognized in the Boston Asian Community. Julie received
numerous awards and honors over the years. But it was never the recognition she
sought. It was the joy of helping others that fueled her soul and drove her to help the
Boston Asian Community.
Julie was a passionate advocate for those around her. To her family, she was a source
of unwavering love. Julie was always there to support them. She was a guiding force
and built a strong foundation for her entire family to grow and flourish. To her friends,
she was a dependable presence. To the community, she was an inspiration. And to so
many, she was simply "Auntie Julie" - a name that brought comfort, warmth and a smile.
Her memory will carry on in the many lives that she has touched and she will be deeply
missed by all who knew and loved her.
Julie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, devoting her life to
her family. She leaves behind five children, the late Yee Hee and his wife Yat, the late
Doris Wong and her husband Gene, Raymond and his wife Patricia, Michael and his
wife Jane and Howard and his wife Clara. Her loving grandchildren include the late
Karen, the late David, Janet, Louisa, Gloria, Joseph, Steven, Neala, Jillian, Rachel,
Victoria, Alyssa and Erica. She also leaves behind twelve great grandchildren and
numerous nieces and nephews.
