Son Thanh Tran Obituary

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Son Thanh Tran, who left this world peacefully on August 17, 2025, at the age of 76. He was born on April 2, 1949, in Bạc Liêu, Vietnam, and lived a life marked by resilience, service, and devotion to his family.

Son served proudly as a Marine in the Vietnam War, where he fought bravely for five years defending his homeland against communism. His time in the military shaped his character, and he carried his pride as a veteran throughout his life. He loved sharing his war stories, passing down both lessons of sacrifice and courage. His service also inspired his eldest son, San Tran, to follow in his footsteps by joining the U.S. Army and serving in Iraq.

In 1985, Son immigrated to Boston, Massachusetts with his wife Marigiah and daughter Chanthy, in pursuit of opportunity and a brighter future for his family. He began his career in engineering at the Park Plaza Hotel before establishing himself as a private contractor, a profession he continued until his retirement at age 65.

Beyond his dedication to work, Son found his greatest peace on the water. Fishing, squidding, and spending time at sea were his joys, and his boat remained his pride. In his retirement, he embraced the ocean fully—spending countless days on the waves he cherished so deeply. It was fitting that his final weeks were spent where he felt most at home: by the sea.

Son is survived by his six loving children, who will forever carry his memory in their hearts: eldest daughter Chanthy Tran, eldest son San Tran, second daughter Sally Tran, second son Aly Tran, youngest daughter Sakiroh Tran, and youngest son Abdohamis Tran. His legacy also lives on through his three cherished granddaughters: Abigail, Alyssa, and Cleo Tran.

He will be remembered as a proud veteran, a hardworking provider, a man of quiet strength, and someone who found profound joy and freedom in the ocean. His love for family, his sacrifices, and his enduring spirit will live on in all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Wing Fook Funeral Home, 13 Gerald St., Boston, MA. Family and friends are invited to gather, honor his life, and share in remembrance.
