Obituary for Yuk Yung Cheng (鄭玉容)
Yuk Yung Cheng, beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, of Back Bay Boston,
passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, at the age of 85, surrounded by her loving
family and friends.
She was born on March 21, 1940, in Huiyang District, Guangdong Province, China. In 1965,
she emigrated to Hong Kong, and in 1978, moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where she built
a loving home and a life rooted in family, tradition, and resilience. She resided in the Back
Bay neighborhood of Boston, where she enjoyed the community and city life for many years.
She was a longstanding member of Mei Te Temple in Malden, Massachusetts, where she
nurtured her faith and friendships within the community. She also enjoyed spending time at
the Senior Center in Boston’s Chinatown, where she formed many lasting bonds and shared
in cultural activities. In addition, she had a love for travel, exploring new places and creating
memories with her family and friends. She also enjoyed practicing Tai Chi well into her
seventies, which brought her peace and balance.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Man Sang Chan, who passed away in 2018.
Together they raised a close and caring family, instilling the values of hard work, kindness,
and togetherness.
She is survived by her five children: George Chan and his wife Maggie of Upland, California;
Irene Chan and her spouse Albert Kim of Alameda, California; Connie Wong and her
husband Jimmy of Menlo Park, California; Michael Chan and his wife Pauline of Bryn Mawr,
Pennsylvania; and Kathy Carvalho and her partner Chris Dion of Newmarket, New
Hampshire.
She was a proud and loving grandmother to six grandchildren: Kayla Wong and her spouse
Clarence, Jason Chan, Jolee Chan, Anna Chan and her fiancé Corwin Standen, Andrew Chan,
and Ella Carvalho.
Her family and friends will remember her for her strength, wisdom, generosity, and
unwavering devotion to those she loved. She cherished family gatherings, the joy of seeing
her children and grandchildren thrive, and the bonds that kept everyone close despite
distance.
She will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on September 9, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Wing
Fook Funeral Home in Boston. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery. All who knew
her are warmly invited to attend and celebrate her life.
