Ging Toy Lee of Newton, devoted husband, beloved father, grandfather and great
grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on Tuesday, December 23, 2025,
with family present at the Mariam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland.
He was born in a farming village outside of Taishan, China. He met his beloved
sweetheart and mother of his children Mo Kun in grade school. While waiting to
immigrate to the United States, he moved to Hong Kong where he studied electronics
and enrolled in a yearlong chef training program.
Toy spent many years as a professional chef and head chef at several Boston-area
Chinese restaurants including Golden Phoenix, Hung’s Food, Forbidden City, and South
Pacific. Later, he worked at Printer Products in Allston for many years until he retired.
He supported and stayed a member of the Lee Family Benevolent Association in
Chinatown for decades. He stayed connected through events and holiday celebrations,
and having his children attend Chinese language classes, and volunteering to do
repairs in the building when needed.
His passion was cooking for family and friends. He will be warmly remembered for
hosting his big annual birthday cookouts for himself and two relatives who also had
birthdays that month. He grew flowers and Chinese vegetables in his impressive
garden, generously sharing his harvest and preparing dishes for his family. He had a
passion for fishing – both fresh and salt water, in addition to hunting, and would go at
every opportunity.
He is survived by his wife, Mao Wun; her children Woon Yin (Jimmy), David (Cynthia),
Julie (Ken), Steven (Grace), as well as eight beloved grandchildren and two great-
grandchildren. He is also survived by his children from his late wife, Mo Kun: Cherry,
Carol (David), Ray, and Virginia (Tommy). Through them he is blessed with seven
devoted grandchildren, and three great grandchildren who brought him much joy. His
legacy continues through all of his family, who will remember him with deep affection
and gratitude for his guidance and love.
Services will be at the Wing Fook Funeral Home on Saturday, January 3, 2026. Visiting
hours and service: 9-11 AM, procession beginning at 11 AM, followed by the burial at
Forest Hills Cemetery.
