Obituary of Helen Lam

Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Helen Lam, 84, Newton, MA, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2023. She is survived by her daughter, Cindy and her husband William Yee of Newton, grandson, Nicholas Lee and grand dog, Max. She is also survived by a brother, a sister, and many nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews and great-great nieces/nephews.

Helen was the first to come to America to attend school in Pennsylvania. She then moved to Boston, continued her education, married and started a family. She helped her siblings and their families come to the United States, escaping the turmoil of Vietnam. No feat was too big to help the ones she loved.

Over the years, she flourished as a prominent figure in Boston’s Chinatown, serving and supporting all newly arrived Chinese immigrants with a compassionate and selfless heart. She also supported her church and congregation in any way she can. Early in her career she was a preschool teacher and later sold life insurance and real estate.  She always said she was very fortunate to have made so many friends and meet so many interesting people.

Her passions included ballroom dancing,  Chinese folk dancing, gardening, shopping and trying different foods.
