Obituary of Fung Kee Moy

Fung Kee Moy (nee Chin) born March 4, 1933 Devoted wife and loving mother of 7 children, died peacefully after a long illness on September 24, 2021, surrounded by her family. Born in the Chin Village in Guangdong Province of China, cherished daughter of the late Yook Pon (Andy) Chin and Moi Tai Ng. She came from very humble beginnings and was witness to the Japanese army's occupation and China's civil war. With a young toddler in tow they exiled to Hong Kong and during the Summer of 1959, with her growing family of 4 boys, immigrated to America, or “Guhm Sahn” (Golden Mountain) in search of a new life. They made Boston their permanent home where they had three more children, including her only daughter. When she wasn't busy feeding and bandaging her 7 little explorers she found time to hold various jobs working for local clothing manufacturers and hospitals to make ends meet and provide her family with wings to grow. She proudly became a U.S. citizen and eagerly rode the Red Line trains to her ESL classes in Dorchester, ultimately building a considerable vocabulary and translating English into Toisanese for her American Born Children and grandchildren. In later years, she enjoyed ballroom dancing and playing mah-jong with friends. She was a lover of nature and enjoyed long walks in the "Fens" and exercising in the fresh air; she was often seen leading other gentlefolk in morning Tai Chi. She was a longstanding active member of the Moy Shee (Family) Association and the Chin Family Association. A devout Red Sox and Celtics fan, she loved to spend her evening hours cheering on either team before settling in for the night. The driving force for all her accomplishments was her great love not only for her family but for all whose lives she touched. She was kind, and she was generous, always willing to share whatever she herself had, no matter how small. If there was nothing material she could give, she would provide blessings and prayers for a long life and good fortune. She treasured any time spent with her family, often recounting to us her memories of life as a young girl in the Chin village, but also content to just sit back as an observer watching the antics of her brood. Her greatest joy was to simply have her family together under one roof. She will be very much missed by her family and remembered as loving, thoughtful, patient, and above all, for the unconditional love and devotion she gave to all of us. Her favorite saying was, “You are my heart,” and her family came to realize how deeply she felt that sentiment, no matter how often she said it. She leaves her husband of 71 years, Bing Hen Moy of Boston, her brother Kin On Chin (Tuey Seng) of North Quincy, her beloved children who provided round-the-clock care to her when the progression of her Alzheimer’s Disease became detrimental to her safety in these last few years: James (Mary) of Waltham, Edward (Katherine) of Southboro, David of Boston, Ellen Moy-Maneikis (Charles) of Dorchester, Kenneth (Ann) of Belmont, and her “mee doi” Samuel of Boston. She also leaves 16 treasured grandchildren and 18 precious great-grandchildren. She is eternally reuniting with her grandson Clifford and her son Benjamin (Benny) whom she has missed everyday for the past 51 years. Friends and family are welcome to the visitation at the Wing Fook Funeral Home, 13 Gerard Street, Boston, which will be held Sunday, October 3, from 3-7pm. The funeral will be Monday, October 4, from 11-12p. Interment will be at Forest Hills Cemetery following the funeral.
