Kim Toun Yee passed away on February 28, 2022, at the age of 86 at her home in Waltham, Massachusetts. She was the beloved wife of Ming-Lye Yee, the devoted mother of Meefong Chen, Keng Seng Yee, Keng Kwee Yee, Keng Foo Yee, May Ngo, and the loving grandmother of Teresa Chen, Anita Chen, Andrew Chen, Vivian Yee, Christopher Ngo, Jonathan Yee, and Benjamin Yee.

Kim was a woman that fiercely loved her family. Born on December 10, 1935, in Rangoon, Myanmar to Mah Yi and Wong Look In, she dropped out of elementary school before graduating to help at her family farm and provide for her family. After marrying her husband, Ming-Lye, Kim threw her energy into raising her five children and caring for her extended family. At the age of 33, she left Myanmar with her family and went to Taiwan to start anew, where she worked as a seamstress to help support her loved ones.

In 1984, Kim moved to the United States with her family. While in the States, she got her first driver’s license at the age of 54, which she then used to fuel her love of travel. Kim was an avid traveler, and she especially loved cruises, traveling all across the world on cruises. When she wasn’t traveling, she loved gardening, cooking, sewing, and spending time with her family.

Kim was adored by her family and community. She is remembered in her community as someone always willing to help with a smile on her face, often jumping in to help with the local farmers’ market.

Kim is survived by her four children and their spouses, Meefong & Terrence Chen, Keng Seng & Sue Yee, Meilin Yee, Keng Foo & Trinh Yee, May & Michael Ngo, and her seven grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Ming-Lye Yee, and son, Keng Kwee Yee.
