Obituary of Pic Ken Chee
Pic Ken (Mah) Chee, 91, of Needham, passed away Tuesday January 30, 2024 after a short illness. Born in Chun Sum village, Baisha township, Taishan county, Jiangmen prefecture, Guangdong province, China, she was a longtime Needham and Newton resident. Pic was the widow of George Kai-Jin Chee. Together, they were proprietors of George;s Laundry, a downtown Newton Highlands business which operated spanning four decades. Subsequently, she worked in the clothing retail industry prior to retirement.
Pic was the mother of Nancy Chee and her husband David Chan of San Francisco; (the late) Julie Hong and her husband Walter; David Chee and his wife Roseanne of North Attleboro; Linda Shaughnessy and her husband Kevin of Newton, and Amy Chee and her husband David Chin of Needham. Pic was sister to (the late) Pic Lai and Pic Po and her husband Dr. Harry Ming-Lum of Vancouver, Canada. Pic was grandmother to Lindsay and (the late) Cassie Chee; Andrew, Matthew, and Kaitlyn Shaughnessy; and Theodore Chin. Pic was aunt to Marita Louie; Corey, Mark, and Andrew Ming-Lum. Additionally, she was survived by grandnieces, grandnephews, and numerous in-laws and their families.
In her retirement years, Pic was a loving mother and grandmother. Most recently, it was a special time as she lived in the same household as her youngest grandson Theodore (Teddy), giving him sage Chinese advice and spoiling him. She was truly the Chinese-American experience: a working mom, a good friend, and a great cook. Pic will be loved and missed by all.
A Funeral Service will be held in the Wing Fook Funeral Home, 13 Gerard St., BOSTON on Monday, February 5 at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Newton Cemetery.
